Florence, Italy; known for the food, the people, but most importantly, the fashion. Being able to observe Florentine Fashion is the most important aspect of studying abroad in this stunning country.
People watching has become my favorite activity abroad. This is because I have seen the most incredibly fashion forward people during my time here in Florence.
So what have I observed from the beautiful Florentines?
First and foremost; color. The color palate here is completely different than cities in the United States. It is composed of very soothing colors intertwined with some striking patterns and prints. I have seen a lot of yellows, oranges, light blues, light greens, and pinks in the street fashion here. I believe this color palate reflects off of the light and warm weather in Florence. Going along with this theory, I have hardly seen any blacks or dark colors while I have been here.
Secondly, I have definitely realized that Florentines are not afraid to incorporate the use of patterns in their daily outfits. I have seen many "loud" but beautifully orchestrated patterns, especially in pants and in floor length dresses. Patterned pants are big here. I have been able to spot at least three people a day who are wearing loose fitting patterned pants. Usually, the pants are paired with a simplistic light colored, tucked in, short sleeved shirt with the company of some strappy sandals, or high heels for a more sophisticated look.
One look that stood out to me was a woman that I saw who was wearing some gorgeous multicolored pants accompanied with a Prada bag, tucked in linen shirt, and some stiletto heels. This style amazed me because it was a relaxed outfit instantly turned chic by adding a little designer touch and some extravagant heels.
The Florentines have more of a relaxed lifestyle, and this is definitely shown throughout by their mode of dress. It is easy to correlate “relaxed” with “messy” or “lazy”, but assuredly that IS NOT the case here. The Florentines are very good at looking well put together by using fabrics such as linens and silks to compliment their relaxed lifestyle.
I can most certainly say that I am not a bit disappointed in the fashion I have seen here thus far. Not only is Florence filled with breathtaking views, food, and people; but it is also filled with breathtaking and beautiful clothing. The Florentines really do live up to the image of being attractive, chic, and well dressed.
So my fashion advice for you? Do as the Florentines do.
